The Role of Skin Color on Children’s Biological and Non-Biological Judgments
نویسنده
چکیده
The following two studies examined the role of skin color on children’s biological and nonbiological judgments. Study 1 examined preschoolers, first graders, third graders, fifth graders and adults’ reasoning about the impact of skin color on the contraction of common contagious illnesses. Study 2 assessed children’s and adults’ impact of skin color on positive and negative social behaviors. Results for Study 1 indicated that preschoolers judged that the character in the vignette is more likely to contract an illness from someone who is of a different skin color than himself/herself whereas the older participants did not display this bias. Results of Study 2 indicated that preschoolers did not subscribe to skin color affecting positive and negative social behaviors but elementary school childrenand adults did. Older children and adults judged that the character in the vignette would more likely display more positive behaviors towards someone of their own skin color. These results suggest that children are influenced by biosocial factors such as skin color when making judgments about biological processes and non-biological behaviors.

Influence of Dimethyl Sulfoxide as a Penetration Enhancer of Piroxicam Gel Through Biological Skin
Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent which has an extensive use in rheumatic disorders. Since its skin penetration is still a subject for research, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide on percutaneous penetration of piroxicam gel formulation through skin. In this study, as a model, two types of 0.5% piroxicam new gels, so called red and gr...
متن کاملMelatonin Role in Ameliorating Radiation-induced Skin Damage: From Theory to Practice (A Review of Literature)
Normal skin is composed of epidermis and dermis. Skin is susceptible to radiation damage because it is a continuously renewing organ containing rapidly proliferating mature cells. Radiation burn is a damage to the skin or other biological tissues caused by exposure to radiofrequency energy or ionizing radiation. Acute skin reaction is the most frequently occurring side effect of radiation thera...
متن کاملVisible skin color distribution plays a role in the perception of age, attractiveness, and health in female faces
Evolutionary psychologists have proposed that preferences for facial characteristics, such as symmetry, averageness, and sexual dimorphism, may reflect adaptations for mate choice because they signal aspects of mate quality. Here, we show that facial skin color distribution significantly influences the perception of age and attractiveness of female faces, independent of facial form and skin sur...

متن کاملThe Role of Highly Conserved Tryptophan in the Sixth Conserved Region at Substrate Specificity of α- amylase
Early in this study, an α-Amylase from Bacillus megaterium WHO (BMW) was isolated from hot springs of Ramsar (North of Iran), and its gene was cloned in E.coli. Based on its conserved sequence regions and substrate specificity, it was classified as intermediary group enzymes with the specificity of oligo-1,6-glucosidase and neopullulanase subfamilies. In the sixth conserved re...
